The Czech Republic has been known for beer…
since at least the 1840s when Pilsner Urquell debuted Pilsner, a style that has dominated the world. However, the Czech Republic seems to have faded into the background of the beer world as Belgium, Germany, and especially the US, have taken the spotlight. My next guest is an American expatriate who, about 20 years ago, deeply immersed himself into the world of the Czech Republic. He is a professional writer who has since become the authority and unofficial ambassador between Eastern Europe and the U.S. for beer. He has written books, features for major publications, and appeared on TV shows to educate the beer world about the Czech Republic ever since. He joins me in this episode to not only talk about why we should enjoy Czech beer, but also, why it matters.
Beer means many things to us. For some, it’s revenue, others influence. To the rest of us, it’s a door to another time or another world. Writers like Evan, and hopefully podcasts like this one, serve as a guide by sharing stories and experiences that keep our sense of adventure and curiosity alive.
