The Netherlands, sometimes referred to as Holland, is known for many things: Windmills? Check. Amsterdam? Check. Macro lagers that usually don’t fare too well on the voyage to America? Check. Yet, craft beer is not among them. That is, until now.
Even though the Dutch have always enjoyed beer, the craft beer culture there is in its infancy. But, with the influence of Belgium and the U.S., it won’t be long before they produce world class ales and lagers.
My next guest is a dual citizen, Dutch-American who grew up in Beer Town USA and yearned for something more. He is a young man caught between two countries who found adventure by becoming an accidental ambassador to the Netherlands for craft beer and, ironically, American BBQ. Join me as I begin a series exploring the emerging craft beer culture in Europe.
If beer and travel are a part of your life, then now is the perfect time to explore the international beer scene. Many countries are starting to brew small and independent craft beer, but are already a part of a rich culinary tradition. Who knows, maybe you will become the next beer ambassador.
