What if you suddenly discovered that you could no longer drink beer? In fact, what if drinking just one beer could send you to the hospital? What would you do? In this episode of Good Beer Matters, we talk to a woman who endured this experience and came out of it not only with a beer in her hand but a worldwide blog that helps others who experience similar problems.
From the age of 15 to 22, Lindsi Kay experienced tension that turned into a full-on migraine headache that felt like a hammer pounding her head, every single day. On top of that, she experienced depression and constant illness, all while going to school and working full time. She went from doctor to doctor with no hope of a cure.
Lindsi resigned herself that this was going to be her life and her only choice was to accept it. That is until she met her good friend, Sophie who made a passing comment about food allergies.
The problem was, she grew up around the manufacture of bagels and pasta. But, Lindsi eventually had a blood test that confirmed her suspicions, she was gluten, dairy and beer intolerant. At this point, she had a bold choice to make.
Lindsi had emerged to a new, pain-free life and a new normal with a different sort of beer in her hand and a blog that went global.
Yes, there are other beverages out there, but beer is so much more than a glass of alcohol and bubbles. The world of beer brings a vast and complex culture that provides something for everyone, even for those who cannot consume traditional beer.
