GBM 22 – Seven Way to Mix Beer into Cocktails with Author & Mixologist, Jacob Grier

Jacob Grier making a Flip

What do the words, “Beer Cocktails” conjure in your mind?  Do Boilermakers, Irish Car Bombs, Beermosas or, my early favorite, Shandies flicker across your mind like a highlight reel? For hundreds of years, mixing additional ingredients or spirits into one’s beer has been a utilitarian standard. Then, the post pro-hibition era homogenized not only our beer and palates, but our creative approach to beer as well. Some of that fallout remains as we singularly identify ourselves as loyal to one brand or to one style.  But what would happen if we, instead,  thought of our beer as a set of flavors and textures that lent themselves to mixing into something new?  My next guest literally wrote the book on the artful world of beer cocktails.  He speaks to us about the 7 ways to use beer in drinks, and that boilermakers aren’t even the half of it.

I once turned a bottle of good wine into Sangria to the shock of wine snobs.  But you know what?  That Sangria was damn good.  Better ingredients and better education about how to use them will almost always turn into something wonderful.  I challenge you to try it yourself.
