How to Find World Class Beer in Barcelona
Spanish beer is currently in a youthful phase of defining itself. But make no mistake, the Spanish culinary scene is so mature and so strong, it is a matter of time before Spanish beer breaks out and influences the world. I just hope you and I will be there when it happens?
In this episode we continue our series exploring good beer in Europe by visiting Barcelona. Although a part of Spain, this Mediterranean city is also the capital of the autonomous nation of Catalonia.
Barcelona is a diverse and progressive city full of 1.6 million thirsty people who generally prefer wine, vermouth or even a gin and tonic. Despite that, finding good Belgian or German beer, or even a decent lager from a giant company is easy. But, finding a good, locally made craft beer is still somewhat of a challenge. However, all of that is changing as Barcelona is taking its place in the world beer community due, in part, to the Barcelona Beer Festival, but especially to one of its organizers, beer writer Joan Villari-Martí.
